Fall Weddings in Austin – What to Watch Out For

Fall in Austin – there’s almost no better time of year. After months of sweltering heat the crisp air feels like a reprieve. The city seems to be revived and in full swing as they enjoy the beautiful outdoors before winter sets in.

5964200946_bfeb67f891_oFall is quickly becoming the en vogue wedding season in the capitol city, but brides-to-be that are in planning mode need to factor in a few important things before settling on a date.

Weather

Summertime in Austin is fairly predictable – hot temps and an absence of rain. Fall on the other hand can be amazingly comfortable and beautiful, but more uncertain.

October Temperatures

  • Average High – 81°
  • Average Low – 60°
  • Record High – 100°
  • Record Low – 30°

November Temperatures

  • Average High – 70°
  • Average Low – 49°
  • Record High – 91°
  • Record Low – 20°

October Rain

  • Average – 3.97”

November Rain

  • Average – 2.68”

Bigger swings in temperature, better chance of rain and the possibility of hail – these are the weather considerations to take into account when planning a fall wedding.

Another thing worth noting – daylight. While daylight savings time won’t roll around until November 3rd this year, the days will be getting shorter and shorter leading up to it. During October you can expect the sun to set between 7:15pm and 6:45pm.

Festivals

Fall has become festival season in Austin. For many of the same reasons that brides choose October and November for their big event so do foundations and organizations. During fall here’s what’s going on:

  • ACL – October 4-6 & 11-13
  • Austin Film Festival – October 24-31
  • Texas Book Festival – October 26-27
  • Austin Celtic Festival – November 2-3
  • Fun Fun Fun Fest – November 8-10
  • East Side Studio Tour – November 16-17 & 23-24

And these are just the big ones. There are also a number of smaller festivals happening throughout October and November.

Football

Fall is football season in Texas. Friday through Monday people are in the stands, glued to the TV and throwing get togethers. Scheduling around when UT or the Cowboys are hitting the gridiron may not be high on your priority list, but for others in the wedding party and guests it can be.

The other concern beyond guest availability is congestion. On UT home game weekends thousands of visitors come to town creating serious traffic and filling up hotels. It could even pose a problem for the reception if you plan to have the party downtown or near the UT campus.

If you’re planning a fall wedding in Austin take a quick look at the UT schedule. Opt for the by-week if possible, or an away game weekend at the very least.

Regardless of when you ultimately decide to have your wedding, when you use Royal Executive Transportation wedding services we’ll get you around town no matter what’s going on. We can even help you plan in advance should the weather, festivals, football or other fall factors come into play on your wedding day.
